Md2 to json converter

Tried to make a simple little “webapp” that converts Md2 models(the old quake 2 model format) into the json format(version 3) that is used by three.js.
You simply open the page, and then drag and drop a *.md2 file and it will be converted and a preview of the mesh should appear. You can then drag and drop jpg/png images for the texture to be previewed as well.
Move the mouse left/right to spin the model, up/down to move the y position. Scrollwheel to scale it.
If it looks ok, enter a filename and hit “Save”.
It should now be downloaded(in Chrome at least, Firefox opens it in a new window).
You can then load in the json files into your three.js projects and use them as morphTargets.
MD2 to JSON Converter (a model to test with, if you don’t have one)
Example of converted model as morphTarget
I have only tested this in Chrome and Firefox, so not sure if it works anywhere else. Mostly done as an exercise for myself to understand the format, drag and drop and filehandling etc. But might be useful to someone else out there.
Edit (Mar 08, 2012): Looks like I had the exporter output a horizontally flipped model, should be fixed now. Thanks to @alteredq for letting me know.
Pixel particles

For a recent project there was a need for lots of particles, in flashplayer 10. Here´s some of the experimentation that came out of that. There are no preloaders, so just wait for something to show(some are quite heavy).
2x pixels, heightmap/colormap
2x pixels, heightmap/colormap shapes
1x pixels, heightmap 200x200px
1x pixels, heightmap 300x300px
1x pixels, heightmap 400x400px
1x pixels, 3d teapot 50k
1x pixels, 3d teapot 100k
1x pixels, 3d teapot 200k
1x pixels, morph A (click anywhere to morph)
1x pixels, morph B (click anywhere to morph)
1x pixels, morph C (click anywhere to morph)
Lesson learned is that linked lists are way faster than arrays.. ;)
Bye 2011
So, another year passes by. Finally managed to get the site moved to a wordpress solution this year, yay! Have had the great privilege to work on a couple of realtime 3d projects this year. First up was ROME(nominated for pca on fwa) in the beginning of the year, big, fun and challenging project built using webgl. Towards the end of the year we did Netguys, a small, short stage3D project.
I really think these technologies are great tools and will prove to be really helpful when it comes to building immersive experiences, games, etc. on teh internetz. Got a lot of potential if used right. I guess the biggest obstacle will be gpu-blacklists and crappy gpu:s, especially in the macbook-infected industry where I work. But we´ll see.
Hope you all have a nice holiday and a great 2012!
Site update
Well, I have finally joined the 21st century and moved the, almost 10 year old, html-site to a wordpress solution. Just what the world needs, another asshole with a blog…
Big thanks to Jocke and Spocke at Moxiecode for the help with the hosting! And hey, I’m using their wysiwyg-editor while writing this. Check out TinyMCE, it´s a great open-source project.
Let me know if you find something that´s not working.
Bye 2010
Another busy year have (almost) passed, and more projects behind me. We have one site nominated at The Fwa:s Peoples Choice Awards 2010 this time, it’s July.
Things slowed down a bit towards the end of the year though. Great for me, had time to play with some mobile/android stuff. And later also try a bit of js+canvas and some WebGL. I can really see the potential. Really fun to play with from a developers point-of-view.
I also actually ended up using twitter, it’s a good work-tool/channel to see trends and what people are up to etc. You can ‘follow’ me @oosmoxiecode.
This site is nearing 10 years without a remake/update… lol. I would really like to convert it to a wordpress-solution.. some day.
Have a great 2011 everyone!
Testing Twitter
Have promised myself, as a early new years resolution, to try and be more open to shit like this. So now I´m gonna try twitter. So if you are not a stranger to bad humor, irony and foul language, you can follow me @oosmoxiecode.
North Kingdom – Showreel
Rob has put up a showreel, showing some of our(North Kingdoms) work the past years. Make sure to check it out.
Oh, and we have two sites nominated at The Fwa:s Peoples Choice Awards 2009, Feb and Dec, so go vote for us.
Have sometimes thought I should do some sort of portfolio. It usually starts with me making a list of the sites and stuff I´ve been in involved in over the last ten years. And that´s also were it ends with me going: “Ähh fuck it… Like I have time for this…” ;)
Flash 10 tests
Have uploaded some inital tests using Flash 10(in the Experiments section). Have also done some tests with Papervision3D. More to come, hopefully.
Merry christmas 2008
Almost a full year and no updates, that is bad. I have been home with my son for the last six months, haven´t even opened flash in that time. But that will change soon as it´s time to go back to work in January.
Flash 10 also means it’s time for me to upgrade(have basicly skipped Flash 9 so far). Hopefully there will more updates next year… ;)
addChild(“Hugo”)
I have become the father of a son. :) Check out a small clip here, of him lying around doing whatever they do.
32k swf compo – results
The results from the 32k swf competition are in, they can be found here. The result is from both the online voting and the voting at Icons07.
32k swf competition
There have been a 32k swf competition over at flashscene.org. Head over there and check out the entries and vote for my lame entry :P, or whoever you think should win. I have an idea of which entry will win anyway :) (Hint: starts with an A… that was just great stuff!)
Was great fun making it though, although I guess I should have used AS3/Flash9 instead of Flash8.
Merry christmas 2006
A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you people out there. It´s been a busy year for me at work, and we have done some fun projects, won some awards and so on… Hope next year will be just as much fun.
Some yearly statistics, about 2 million vistors this year, around 130 gb of data has been transfered. So it´s been a little less traffic this year, could be due to the lack of new games :) what do I now?
I always hope to get time to do some ‘new’ games, got some ideas written down, just waiting to be done. But I somehow doubt that will happen soon. :P Cheers to everyone out there!
flvPlayer
I´ve uploaded a beta of a simple YouTube style FLV player. It´s meant to be small and hopefully easy to implement. I tried to keep the features simple and not bloat it to much.
Might be useful for someone out there, it´s free to use for anything by anyone :). I might release the source or make it skinnable in the future.
Online Ansi Reader
Continuing on the ascii art track, I´ve published an Online Ansi Reader aswell. Made this one in Flash8 with the bitmap stuff.
Check it out and download it here.
More information about ansi-files can be found here.
Online Nfo Reader
I´ve made an Online Nfo Reader for a friend of mine. I decided to release it for anyone to use, maybe someone else also founds it useful…
Check it out here, any suggestions for more features are welcome.
More information about nfo-files can be found here.
Mod player in Flash 9
André Michelle have developed a modplayer in Flash 9, called 8bitboy(preview). It´s not done yet, but it looks incredibly cool so far.
The mod format was originally developed for the Amiga, read more about it on wikipedia. This essentially means we can create soundeffects etc. on the fly in Flash 9, among other things. Looking forward to try it out when it´s finished.
Go Sweden!
WM 2006 Webflags by André Michelle, from Germany ;)
Edit: Well, that didn´t help the Swedish team much :) Gongratulations to Germany! I´m cheering for Brazil now, since they are the most fun to watch.
Merry christmas 2005
I´d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It´s been a fun a year with Flash 8 being released and all, looking forwards to see what 2006 brings.
Some statistics, a little over 3 million vistors this year, about 190 gb of data has been transfered.
To those who have written mails and haven´t gotten any answer.. ;( I´m very sorry. Most of the time I don´t have time answer or even read all of them, but thanks anyway. It´s just pure luck if you happen to send it at a point when I have time to answer.. Sorry again. Cheers everybody out there!
